So, I just did a try on haul for a brand, and got super excited when I saw that they had wide calf boots. I ordered 3 boots, and unfortunately only 1 pair fit my calves!! I was so heart broken, especially since I absolutely loved all of them.
I’ve run into this problem many times when purchasing boots. The thing is, wide calf & wide width boots are considered specialty shoes, as if millions of people in the US alone don’t have wide feet…smh. Because of this, it can be a little harder to just walk in the store and find the perfect boot for you. So, since I’m providing a list of some wide width and wide calf boots for you guys, I also have 3 simple tips when purchasing wide boots online.
Measure your foot & your calf
Knowing your measurements will be so helpful when purchasing wide width boots. If you’re like me, been plus size all your life and love to shop, then you have experienced the difference between a size 20 at Boohoo and a size 20 at Forever 21. There isn’t one standard sizing form for us to shop from. Brands have their own sizing charts for their products. Therefore, some brands will classify something as “wide width” that really isn’t wide width…
Measure your feet (both, because you are going to go by the largest measurement) and your calves to know what boots would fit you perfectly. You should only have to do this once before boot season, especially if you need to replace a few pairs. Check your measurements against the measurements listed in the description of the wide width boots you are interested in.
Purchase wide calf boots with zippers
One of the boots I purchased from the brand I mentioned earlier didn’t fit because of how I had to put them on. The foot portion of the boot was very structured and the entire boot did not have a zipper. I had to put the it on by sliding it from the opening, and could not fully get my foot into the bottom of the structured boot.
To avoid having this problem, purchase boots that have zippers! Being able to slide your foot in from the side versus the top can make or break whether you are able to wear that boot. Especially, if you have foot swelling that would play a part in being able to slid your foot in from the opening. This also makes for a very comfortable and more convenient way of getting dressed. It’s something about knowing you have to put on a boot that is a pain to get on that will take away the enjoyment of getting ready, and feeling good about what you’re wearing.
Don’t shy away from an investment
When you are purchasing wide width & wide calf boots and booties, skimping on price should not be your first concern. What you want to think of first is fit! Does that mean you need to go to Nordstrom and purchase the best $500 wide width boots they have? Absolutely not! If I see that price, I am running the other way lol.
Instead, don’t be afraid to invest $150 on very well made and perfectly fitting boots that you wont have to replace for at least 3 years. That is an excellent purchase! When making a boot purchase that is more of an investment, look for boots with style that will last forever! Those will be your riding boots, or simple black point toe & combat boots. These are just some examples.
I hope you guys enjoyed some of these tips. If you have extra tips or you really found these tips to be helpful, please let me know in the comments below!
SHOP WIDE WIDTH BOOTIES & WIDE CALF BOOTS
I totally get what you mean when you talk about having to slide your foot into the opening of a structured boot and the need for zipper up boots. I have hardware in my right foot from a car accident many moons ago, so having to slide it in from the open part is not as easy as being able to place my foot from the side into a boot with a zipper. Also, your point about not shying away from the investment is spot on… a good boot should last upwards of 3 years & when you do the… Read more »
