Auditioning for Dates in 2016!
I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve had my fair share of auditions for dates before I realized what was really being done. Have you guys gone through this? First, I’ll tell y’all about my experience so you can get the gist of what I’m talking about.
In the last couple of years, I’ve done a lot of online dating. I’m talking tinder, soul swipe, POF (which I would not recommend…but that’s for a later date) and the list goes on. So, I’m sure you already know the point of these online dating sites. You create a profile and fill in all of the questions and surveys, upload some photos, and play around in the app or site trying to find your true match. Well, some of these birds out here are getting ruthless and let me tell you why. I would receive messages from guys who apparently liked my pictures, but wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything wrong with me before investing time to get to know me. So these “men” would ask for pictures of my feet to make sure they’re not ugly, pictures of my butt checking to see if it’s big enough, wanting proof that I keep myself groomed properly I mean honey the list goes on! At the time I already had low self esteem so the fact these guys felt the need to ask me for “proof that I am worthy of their time” made me feel even worse. Thank God I have the knowledge and wit I have today, because no one can pull that wool over my eyes again. I’ve been there and done that!
It never dunned on me that what these guys were showing was another form of insecurity I wasn’t used to witnessing. If someone were to ask me that today, I’d simply ask, “What’s wrong with you that makes you want to check and see if I’m perfect?” Looking for a perfect partner is only a cover up of what you are insecure about and wanting to hide. Now I understand that yes, it is important to have some sort of attraction to your significant other, but don’t be out in these streets looking for perfection. And definitely don’t allow a man to think it’s ok to want you to audition for his time. That crap only exists on Instagram, and that is where it needs to stay.
Have you guys ever experienced this? I know I’m not the only one so let’s hear some more personal stories.
